The History of Wine: Wine of Burdigala

RECENT PRESENTATIONS:

The history of French wine began approximately 2600 years ago when France did not exist yet as a political entity. Burdigala is the name given by the ancient Celts to the city we know today as Bordeaux,France.

The Etruscans introduced wine to ancient France around the 7th Century BCE from Etruria, which is today’s Tuscany, Italy. From the Etruscan trade routes, Greek culture and the Roman Legions marching north on their quest to conquer, brought their knowledge of wine-making - and of course vines - with them.

This presentation explains the origins of French Wine, with an emphasis on Bordeaux's successful viticulture known worldwide for exceptional Grand Cru varietals.
